GTA 6 map: Vice City, Leonida and everything confirmed so far.

GTA 6 is set in Vice City — Rockstar's fictionalized version of Miami — and the surrounding state of Leonida. Trailer 1 gave us the first official look at the map. Here is what we know and what remains speculation.

Confirmed setting

Vice City returns — set in the state of Leonida.

Vice City. GTA 6 returns to Vice City for the first time since GTA Vice City (2002) and GTA Vice City Stories (2006). This time, Vice City is a modern-day reimagining of Miami, not an 1980s period piece.

Leonida state. The surrounding region is called Leonida, based on the real state of Florida. This is the first time a GTA game has featured an entire state rather than just a single city and its outskirts.

Largest map yet. While Rockstar has not confirmed exact square mileage, the map is expected to be the biggest and most detailed in GTA series history. Trailer 1 showed dense urban areas, beaches, swamps, rural towns and surrounding islands.

Modern technology. The map features modern-day infrastructure: highways, suburbs, strip malls, social media culture and contemporary architecture — a major departure from the 1980s Vice City aesthetic.

Trailer 1 breakdown

What regions did Trailer 1 reveal?

Urban Vice City

Downtown skyscrapers, neon-lit streets, beaches and a bustling waterfront. The city center appears significantly denser than Los Santos in GTA V.

Coastal beaches

Miami Beach-equivalent areas with Art Deco buildings, beachgoers, cars along Ocean Drive-style boulevards and waterfront properties.

Swamplands

Everglades-style wetlands with airboats, wildlife and rural communities. This is a new biome for the GTA series and adds significant map variety.

Suburban areas

Strip malls, parking lots, residential neighborhoods and trailer parks. These areas show everyday American suburban life in the GTA universe.

Keys / Islands

Trailer 1 showed bridges connecting to island chains, similar to the Florida Keys. These could serve as separate explorable zones or remote hideouts.

Rural countryside

Beyond the city, trailer shots showed farmland, small towns and highway rest stops — suggesting a large rural area connecting different parts of the map.

Size comparison

How big will the GTA 6 map be?

No official size has been confirmed. Rockstar has not released map dimensions or square mileage for GTA 6. All size comparisons are estimates based on trailer analysis and leaks — not official data.

GTA V's map is approximately 75.84 square kilometers (29.28 sq mi), including the city of Los Santos, Blaine County and the underwater area. It was considered massive at launch in 2013.

Expectations. Given the 13-year development cycle, the PS5/Xbox Series X hardware leap, and the "entire state of Leonida" framing, most analysts expect GTA 6's map to be significantly larger than GTA V — potentially 1.5x to 2x or more. However, these are estimates, not confirmed facts.

Confirmed vs speculation

What is confirmed and what is not?

Confirmed

  • + Set in Vice City (modern-day Miami)
  • + Surrounding state called Leonida
  • + Urban, suburban, coastal and swamp biomes
  • + Island chains visible in Trailer 1
  • + Modern-day setting (not 1980s)

Not confirmed

  • + Exact map size or square mileage
  • + Full list of explorable regions
  • + Whether the map will expand post-launch
  • + Interior density (how many buildings are enterable)
  • + Underwater exploration extent

GTA 6 vs GTA Vice City

GTA Vice City (2002) was set in the 1980s with a relatively small map focused on the city core. GTA 6 returns to the same fictional city but in a modern-day setting with a dramatically larger map, more detailed environments, and the entire Leonida state surrounding it. The only thing they share is the Vice City name.

When will we see more of the map?

Trailer 2 or a gameplay reveal — expected around Summer 2026 — should show significantly more of the map. Previous Rockstar games have had detailed map breakdowns 4–6 months before launch. Check the countdown for how long until that reveal window.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about GTA 6

+When is GTA 6 coming out?

GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This is the official release date confirmed by Rockstar Games. The date was set after a delay from the originally expected Fall 2025 window.

+Has GTA 6 been delayed?

Yes. GTA 6 was originally targeting Fall 2025 but was delayed to November 19, 2026. Rockstar cited the need for additional development time. As of now, no further delays have been announced.

+How much will GTA 6 cost?

The official GTA 6 price has not been announced. Standard AAA games currently launch at $69.99, and most analysts expect GTA 6 to follow this pricing for the standard edition. Premium editions could cost $99.99–$119.99. The $100 standard edition rumor has no official backing. See the price tracker for regional estimates.

+Can I pre-order GTA 6?

Pre-orders are not officially live yet. PS Store and Xbox Store support wishlisting, but wishlist is not the same as a pre-order — it does not reserve a copy or charge your payment method. Based on Rockstar's history, pre-orders typically open 2–4 months before launch, so expect news around August–September 2026. Track pre-order status by store.

+Will GTA 6 be on PC?

A PC version has not been officially announced for launch. The confirmed launch platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. However, every major Rockstar game has eventually come to PC — GTA V took 19 months, RDR2 took 12 months. A PC version of GTA 6 is expected but likely not until late 2027 or early 2028. See the full platform breakdown.
