Delay history
Trailer 1, released in December 2023, confirmed the game was in development and targeted a Fall 2025 release for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar announced a delay, pushing the release from Fall 2025 to November 19, 2026. The delay was attributed to additional development time needed for polish and quality.
No further delays have been announced. Daily source checks monitor Rockstar's official pages for any date changes. This tracker will update immediately if the date moves.
Regional timing
The date is official, but the exact hour is not. Digital unlock times can vary by region, platform and store policy. Rockstar has not yet announced whether GTA 6 will have a synchronized global unlock or staggered regional times.
GTA V's launch used a staggered approach — the game unlocked at midnight local time on consoles. Red Dead Redemption 2 used a similar pattern. GTA 6 may follow the same approach, but this has not been confirmed.
Physical copies may be available at retail stores on launch day, but street date enforcement varies by region and retailer. Some stores break street dates; others are strict.
Pre-load will likely be available 1–2 weeks before launch for digital purchases. This lets you download the game in advance so you can play as soon as it unlocks. File size has not been announced, but GTA V was ~50 GB at launch and GTA 6 will likely be significantly larger.
Setting and map
Vice City returns. GTA 6 is set in Vice City — Rockstar's fictionalized version of Miami, Florida. The surrounding area is called Leonida, based on the real state of Florida.
Largest map yet. The map is expected to be the biggest and most detailed in GTA series history, featuring beaches, swamps, urban cityscapes, rural areas and surrounding islands.
Dual protagonists. The story follows Lucia and her partner in a Bonnie-and-Clyde-inspired crime narrative. Lucia is the first female lead protagonist in the mainline GTA series.
Modern setting. Unlike GTA Vice City (2002) which was set in the 1980s, GTA 6 is set in modern-day Vice City with contemporary technology, social media and culture.
You can wishlist GTA 6 on PS Store now. Pre-orders will open with confirmed pricing and edition details. The game will be available digitally and at retail on November 19.
Xbox Store supports wishlisting. Pre-order details will appear when Rockstar announces editions. Smart Delivery should ensure you get the best version for your console.
PC is not confirmed for launch. Based on Rockstar's history, expect a PC version 12–19 months after console launch — potentially late 2027 or early 2028. No Steam or Epic listing exists yet.

The official GTA 6 price has not been announced. Standard AAA games currently launch at $69.99, and most analysts expect GTA 6 to follow this pricing for the standard edition. Premium editions could cost $99.99–$119.99. The $100 standard edition rumor has no official backing. See the price tracker for regional estimates.
Pre-orders are not officially live yet. PS Store and Xbox Store support wishlisting, but wishlist is not the same as a pre-order — it does not reserve a copy or charge your payment method. Based on Rockstar's history, pre-orders typically open 2–4 months before launch, so expect news around August–September 2026. Track pre-order status by store.
A PC version has not been officially announced for launch. The confirmed launch platforms are PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
